Spring of the Warriors

Sacred Spring, Primavera sacra, is an Italian spring festival centered around conquest and fighting, which had to be paused during the winter. This was driven by overpopulation and the resulting emigration and settling in new territories. The entire ritual is dedicated to the Roman god of war, Mars.

The Sinology and Daoist sections of my library are manageable, but have grown considerably over the years. Nevertheless, I couldn’t find the name Yáng Xióng (揚雄, 53 BC – 18 AD) in any reference book, which is surprising given the fact that Yáng made a name for himself as a poet and philosopher during the Han Dynasty in ancient China.

Praktiker des Wing Chun (Wing Tsun) oder anderer Formen des Kung fu wissen, dass man jede Bewegung mit gerade soviel Kraft wie nötig ausführen soll. Das geht auf Daoismus und Buddhismus zurück, in denen jede Tätigkeit das richtige Atmen voraussetzt und dieses wiederum eine entspannte Körperhaltung.

Reflections on Wing Tsun (1) – Do we have sparring?

Recently I came across a video in which some clueless person once again claimed baseless things about Wing Tsun (WT). The video received 30k likes, even though its producer confused screen kungfu with practical Wing Tsun. I would like to comment on this.
