Welcome to michaelkreutz.net. I am a Germany-based scholar on MIDDLE EAST STUDIES, holding a German doctorate and focusing on the intellectual history of the Middle East and its relation to the West.
My main interest is about the prerequisites of modernity in the Eastern Mediterranean and the Muslim World, its impact from the West and the role of religion within.
As a philologist, I enter the sources in their respective languages, be them Arabic, Persian, Greek, or Hebrew. As a political scientist, I aim at understanding modernisation processes in comparing the Eastern Mediterranean to Western Europe and the US.
Finally, as a political scientist and researcher on intellectual history, I trace back concepts, symbols and code words to their origins and explore how they became crystallization centers of a specific discourse.
