Kreutz, Michael. 2016. Zwischen Religion und Politik: Die verschlungenen Pfade der Moderne. Bochum: Michael Kreutz.

“A particular strength of this book is its unusually detailed, yet well-argued, consideration of the relationship between the three monotheisms of Judaism, Christianity, and Islam and the Enlightenment at the heart of modernity.” (Customer review on Amazon.de)
Kreutz, Michael. 2013. Das Ende des Levantinischen Zeitalters: Europa und die Östliche Mittelmeerwelt. Hamburg: Kovac.

This book describes for the first time the development of today’s countries in the Eastern Mediterranean – from Greece to Israel, from Turkey to Egypt – in a common intellectual, cultural and political context.
Kreutz, Michael 2007. Arabischer Humanismus in der Neuzeit. Berlin: Lit.

It is widely known that the medieval Arab world produced numerous translations from Greek. Less well known is that Greek works were also translated and adapted in the 19th and 20th centuries. While religion is a recurring aspect of this discourse, the primary goal is to establish an Arab modernity in the spirit of the ancient heritage. This book evaluates an extensive corpus of Arabic sources and is the only monograph in German on this topic.
